Joeys leading 1st Bayview in the Anzac Day March at Avalon
Your first jump into Scouting!
Joey Scouts is the youngest section of Scouts, for boys and girls aged 5 - 7. It focuses on fun and friendship, and is a gentle introduction to a world of challenges and adventures through Scouting.
A young person can join the Joey Section at any time after their 5th birthday provided they are attending school full time. When older, they move up to one of our cub section after their 8th birthday, and well before they turn 9.
Joey Scouts are encouraged to express themselves creatively, through games, stories and craft activities. From building monsters and spaceships using scrap items, to growing plants from seedlings, and singing songs together, all Joeys develop a strong sense of belonging and an understanding of the world around them.
Joey Scouts learn how to socialise with other children and help other people. They also learn how to recognise native birds and animals, and develop an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment.
Our Joeys also get into the adventurous activities enjoyed by our older sections. Joeys can expect to go canoeing, sailing, hikes, learn knots, navigation and some first aid. Visits to emergency services bases are common. A parent/carer needs to attend for all adventuroous activities.
